History

Built new as Houston & Texas Central (later T&NO) #251 as a 40 foot full RPO car; Converted to a 15 foot RPO , 25 foot baggage in 1924;  re-lettered for the T&NO in 1931 as part of SP’s consolidation of the Texas Lines; Transferred to the Pacific Lines on 6/25/1943, re-numbered SP 6009 and used mostly on the San Francisco Peninsula; converted to a transfer caboose in 12/11/1957 for use on the San Bruno branch; retired in 1972 and acquired by the Pacific Coast Chapter R&LHS; Purchased by the California State Railroad Museum in 1979; acquired by PLA from the CSRM in 2006 after years of damage/vandalism including several fires in the interior while stored at the ex-SP Sacramento Shop Yard.  

Currently stored on the Niles Canyon Railway.
